As a sub-tropical climate of high humidity and warm temperature ranges, Florida is the ideal environment for growing fleas year round. The only flea control products we recommend, stock or which we know work for the period of time (usually 1 month) indicated on the label require a prescription. Older products based on fipronil or permethrim simply don’t work here longer than about 2 weeks
While you can order prescription requiring products from all the usual on-line pet med pharmacies or pick up at our office, no one can complete your order without a prescription. Before we can issue a ‘script or approval to the pharmacy, we are required by law to have conducted at least one in-pet physical exam.
“Under the Ryan Haight Act of 2008, where controlled substances are prescribed by means of the Internet, the general requirement is that the prescribing Practitioner must have conducted at least one in-person medical evaluation of the patient. U.S.C. § 829(e).”
To issue any prescription, we are required to have you establish your pet as a patient at our clinic.
We cannot issue a prescription for any pet you may have where we haven’t conducted a physical exam regardless if you have other pets which are already established here at our clinic.
We also cannot issue a ‘script in place of another vet without conducting our own in-person physical exam.
Nearly all ‘scripts are also time (one year) restricted before another in-person physical exam is required. This is one of the important reasons why you should schedule and keep your yearly update exams for Fido and Felicia.
We cannot make any exceptions so please do not ask.
